About Us

Our goal at ASC Equipment is simple—we strive to be the easiest to do business with.

Seismic can be a challenge and we work proactively with our clients in efforts to manage the seismic scope and create a clean installation method by partnering with the leading manufacturers and the top seismic engineers across the country.

We offer complete suspension, seismic and wind loading solutions for our clients across the United States.  We have the ability to adapt to any construction project regardless of the location, type of construction or trade.  Our specialty is seismic and wind loading as well as providing labor savings installation products that help contractors do more with less.

Why “ASC Equipment?”

The name ASC Equipment was born from the ASCE-7 standard, which guides us in the requirements for seismic and wind restraints for mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment.  As experts in our field, we coordinate engineering and restraint systems by what the code requires. Nothing more and nothing less.

Management Team:

Joel A. Davis, Sr. – PE

President

Joel currently serves as the President of ASCEquipment. He views leadership as just that – an opportunity to serve his team and the community, and this core value is present throughout all aspects of Joel’s life. He oversaw the transformation of ASCEquipment from a two-person work from home operation in 2001 to the now ever-growing enterprise it is today that includes 40+ team members around the country. In 2006 he was a founding partner of ASCEngineering and currently serves as the firms CEO. He is the Founder of Finish the Wall, a 501c3 whose purpose is to focus resources and empower local communities to efficiently complete construction projects in the developing world.
Joel has amassed an immense amount of knowledge over his career spanning 30+ years in the construction industry. He entered the HVAC business in 1992 and learned the trade over 8 years of working as a mechanic, foreman, superintendent, and project manager. Before moving to corporate management, he consulted on over 500 projects pertaining to the seismic restraint of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Joel has continued to serve his community and was an integral part of creating policy adjustments for the implementation of changes as the code progressed from the 1999 State Building Code (SBC) to the International Building Code (IBC).
Joel earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of South Carolina and holds PE stamps in 15 states across the Southeast, Midwest, and even outside the continental US, including both Alaska and Hawaii.
Joel is an active member of the Southern Piedmont community, having served as the past President of the Southern Piedmont Chapter of ASHRAE and continues to be an active member. He was the ASHRAE Pinnacle award recipient for the 2002-2003 campaign year. When Joel is not working, he prefers staying home enjoying the company of his family. He and his wife, Aimee, have four children. They will soon start a new chapter becoming empty nesters as their youngest heads into his senior year of High School. You may also catch him vacationing with his family at the beach, enjoying a good book. His current favorite business book is Simon Sinek’s “The Infinite Game”; learning about the infinite mindset of serving a cause greater than ourselves and leading trusting teams while building stronger, more innovative, and more inspiring organizations.

Philip Runyon

Vice President

Philip serves as Vice President of ASC Equipment. His journey first began in 2009 when he joined the organization, quickly progressing to an outside sales role by 2010 and ultimately Vice President in 2020. Prior to his tenure here, Philip dedicated his summers between 2000 and 2009 to working for a mechanical contractor, eagerly immersing himself in various roles and gaining invaluable insights into the project management and field side functions of the contracting industry.

One of Philip’s greatest strengths lies in his deep understanding of the challenges faced by contractors across different levels and positions within an organization. His firsthand experience in various roles throughout his career has equipped him with a comprehensive perspective on the pain points experienced by contractors. His commitment to serving the needs of contractors is evident in his unwavering dedication to listening and engaging with them, consistently striving to enhance the products and services offered by ASC Equipment to provide tailored solutions.

Philip holds a Bachelor's degree in Construction Science and Management from Clemson University, which he obtained in 2007. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, he went on to complete his Master's in Business Administration from Clemson University in 2009.

In addition to his commitments to his family and career, Philip also dedicates his time and expertise to organizations that align with his passions. He has served as a past President of ASHRAE of the Charleston chapter as well as an active member and supporter of SCWA (South Carolina Waterfowl Association), an organization dedicated to the conservation of waterfowl habitats, promoting responsible hunting practices and youth outdoor education, which reflects his deep appreciation for nature and his commitment to safeguarding it for future generations.

When Philip isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his family and a multitude of outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing & golfing.
